I Love to Programs and Accro du Patin

I Love to Programs
In partnership with the City of Ottawa and Canadian Tire Jumpstart, the I Love to Skate and I Love to Play Hockey programs help kids in neighbourhoods where barriers to physical activity exist. Both programs are free of charge and provide skates, hockey helmets and sticks in addition to four weeks of recreational skating and hockey lessons at outdoor rinks. The biggest day for the program is the annual wrap-up party at Canadian Tire Centre. More than 500 kids take to the ice and demonstrate their new skills to family and friends at the home of the Ottawa Senators.
Accro du Patin
The Accro Du Patin program is reaching kids on Community RINKS in western Quebec communities. In partnership with the Ville de Gatineau and Bon départ, the program promotes access to recreational, social or extracurricular activities for children and youth in low-income neighbourhoods through skating training, with an objective to improve access to recreation and eliminate obstacles to sport. As a result of support from the Ottawa Senators Foundation, both programs were able to make the following impact over the past year:

“The City of Ottawa’s partnership with the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation is critical. Children and youth living in Ottawa’s priority neighbourhoods would not be able to participate in recreation and culture programs, due to financial barriers, without support from the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation. Many of these children are now active and gaining life skills thanks to the continued support that they receive.”
