The Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation (OGYF) announced today, on #GIVINGTUESDAY, that it intends to activate $400,000 in donations and/or programming support with charities in Ottawa and Gatineau. #GIVINGTUESDAY is touted as a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

“Young people are facing unprecedented challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Danielle Robinson, President & CEO of the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation. “As an organization dedicated to empowering young people to realize their full potential, #GIVINGTUESDAY is the perfect day to make this commitment in honour of the generous donors who want to make a difference in the lives of young people residing in the National Capital Region”.

Funds will support seven (7) different programs and/or organizations reaching young people in a variety of neighbourhoods in both Ottawa and Gatineau beginning in December. The funding the OGYF is providing will focus on breaking down barriers that exist for young people in accessing opportunities for sport and recreation, post secondary education and access to mental health supports. Specific details of the charities and programs to be supported will be shared weekly, throughout December, on the social media channels, website and in newsletters of the OGYF.

The Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation has a 22-year history of supporting young people and charities throughout the region. Formerly called the Ottawa Senators Foundation, the organization has granted more than $35 million to nearly 400 charities in eastern Ontario and western Quebec. The Foundation launched under its new name and brand on Oct. 28, 2020.
